You may know exactly what you would like help with, or you may simply know that something does not feel right.
Sometimes thoughts and feelings can become so overwhelming that it is difficult to explain what is happening. You may feel exhausted, confused or unsure where to begin. You do not need to find the right words or decide which category you fit into before contacting me.
We can begin with what is happening for you.
Anxiety and overwhelming thoughts
Anxiety can affect the way you think, feel and live your everyday life. You may find yourself worrying about what has happened, what might happen or things that feel beyond your control.
Your mind may feel as though it is working overtime. Perhaps you lie awake at night thinking, return to the same worries again and again, or feel that your thoughts are controlling you.
Counselling can give you space to explore these thoughts, understand how you respond to them and begin to develop a different relationship with what is happening in your mind.
Depression and low mood
Depression can leave you feeling low, disconnected, exhausted or without hope. Things that once mattered to you may feel difficult, and everyday life can become hard to manage.
You may feel that other people do not understand, or believe that you should be able to cope on your own. Counselling offers somewhere to speak honestly about how you feel without having to pretend that everything is all right.
Together, we can explore what you are experiencing and what may support you in moving towards a life that feels more manageable and meaningful.
Relationships and family pressure
Relationships can be a source of closeness and support, but they can also leave us feeling hurt, confused or unable to express ourselves.
You may be experiencing difficulties with a partner, family member or another important person in your life. Perhaps you find it hard to communicate what you need, feel responsible for other people’s feelings or are struggling with expectations placed upon you.
Counselling can help you explore relationship patterns, understand your own needs and consider how you would like to relate to others.
Identity and sense of self
There may be times when you question who you are, where you belong or whether you can be accepted as yourself.
You may be exploring your gender, sexuality, relationships, values or the different parts of your identity. You may also feel caught between who you are and who other people expect you to be.
I offer an affirming and non-judgmental space where you can explore your identity without being told who you should be. I welcome people of all genders, sexual orientations, backgrounds and life experiences.
Trauma and past difficulties
Experiences from the past can continue to affect how you feel, think and respond in the present.
You may be carrying something that you have never spoken about before, or you may not yet fully understand how an experience has affected you. Sometimes previous harm can influence relationships, trust, self-worth and your sense of safety.
You will not be pressured to talk about anything before you feel ready. We can work gently and at your pace, exploring the impact of your experiences rather than forcing you to revisit details you do not want to share.
Midlife and periods of change
Midlife can bring changes in relationships, family life, work, health and identity. You may find yourself questioning the choices you have made or wondering what you want from the next part of your life.
Even changes that appear positive can bring uncertainty, loss or a feeling that you no longer recognise yourself.
Counselling can offer you time to reflect on where you are, what matters to you now and how you would like to live and feel as you move forward.
Spiritual and existential concerns
You may find yourself thinking about meaning, purpose, mortality, spirituality or what makes life feel worthwhile.
These questions can arise during loss, illness, change or a period when life no longer feels as it once did. They may also be part of an ongoing exploration of who you are and how you want to live.
I offer space to explore these questions with openness and curiosity. You do not need to follow a particular belief system, and I will not impose my beliefs upon you.
You do not need to face it alone....
The reasons people come to counselling are often complex, and many of these experiences overlap. What matters is not finding the correct label, but understanding what is happening for you and how it is affecting your life.
If you are unsure whether I can support you, you are welcome to contact me and tell me a little about what has brought you to counselling.
